Abstract


The research is to verify the theory of determining the shrinkage limit of soil (SL) by using a graphical method using plasticity soil parameters, such as: liquid limit (LL), plastic limit (PL) and plasticity index (PI), and the shrinkage limit laboratory test. This study aims to estimate and compare shrinkage limit value of two methods of some soils site. From the results of the research that looks at the cohesive soil (clay) shows that the laboratory test method and the determination of the graphical results show that the same approach, with a relatively small difference (0-4%). This indicates that the decrease of determining the boundary through a graphical way using the test value of liquid limit (LL) and plasticity index (PI) can be done on the cohesive soils. While in the inorganic and organic silty or clayey fine sands (cohesiveless) shows the results of the laboratory test and a graphical method have quite large value difference (12-14%).
